UKSDM Jail Project

The UKSDM Jail Project is a transformative initiative launched under the Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission with the objective of equipping jail inmates with industry-relevant skills to facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. This project reflects a progressive approach to correctional reform, aiming to convert prisons into centers of learning, productivity, and hope.

Objective:

To empower inmates with employable skills, reduce recidivism, and promote socio-economic reintegration after release by providing vocational and life skills training within correctional facilities.

Key Features:

  • Customized training programs based on inmate interest, local industry needs, and employability potential.

  • Courses include tailoring, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, two-wheeler repair, bakery, candle making, agriculture, and handicrafts.

2. Certified Training Modules

  • All courses are aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and certified by relevant Sector Skill Councils.

  • On completion, inmates receive recognized skill certificates enhancing post-release job prospects.

3. Holistic Rehabilitation Approach

  • Soft skills, life skills, and financial literacy training are provided alongside technical education.

  • Counseling sessions and motivational workshops are organized to foster mental wellness and personal growth.

4. Post-Release Support

  • Coordination with industries, NGOs, and government schemes for employment opportunities.

  • Linkage to entrepreneurship and self-employment schemes for those wishing to start small ventures.

5. Industry and NGO Collaboration

  • Partnerships with training providers, industry experts, and non-profits ensure quality instruction and real-world relevance.

Project Implementation Sites:

  • Central and District Jails across Uttarakhand

  • Supervised by the State Skill Development Mission in coordination with Jail Authorities
